Gatlinburg SkyBridge

Gatlinburg has a knack for breaking records. The Gatlinburg SkyBridge spans for 680 feet over a deep valley and is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America! It offers guests a chance to enjoy a bird’s eye view of Gatlinburg and the surrounding Smokies. The scenic chondola chairlift at Anakeesta is the world’s only fixed-grip chondola, taking guests 600 feet to the top of Anakeesta Mountain. Choose to ride either an open-air 4-person chair with a bar or an enclosed gondola cabin that seats up to 6.

2. The First Cabin Built Still Exists

Gatlinburg’s history dates back to the early 1800s when settlers began building their homes in this idyllic mountain setting. The first cabin to ever be built in the area, the Ogle Cabin, still stands today. Constructed by William Ogle, the cabin is now preserved and sits at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center, providing visitors a glimpse into life for the earliest residents of Gatlinburg.

3. Gatlinburg’s Namesake Was Run Out of Town

Oddly enough, Gatlinburg’s namesake, Radford Gatlin, was not a beloved figure in the community. He became a controversial figure in the mid-1800s because of his pro-succession views and constant feuds with many of the locals. Despite opening his own general store, he was eventually chased out of town. The Gatlinburg name, which replaced the original name of “White Oak Flats”, remained.
